The Science Fiction Society of Northern New Jersey (SFSNNJ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the best quality events possible in northern New Jersey. Founded in 2006, this social organization has relied on its members to ensure that their motto, “Always free, always fun,” remains the guiding principal of their group. This June, the SFSNNJ will take this ideal to a whole new level.

Coming on the weekend of June 20 through June 22, 2008, the SFSNNJ will hold its first ever charity fundraising event: The Bill Molendyk and Carol Smith First Annual Charity Game Weekend. This weekend will provide fun and games for a good cause in the names and memories of our fallen friends, with donations at the games going into a donation to the Americans with Diabetes Association in the name of these two faithful members.

William “Bill” Molendyk was a great friend to the SFSNNJ, and a member of many game and hobby groups in northern NJ. In January 2008, Bill Molendyk passed away of complications to his long-time diabetes. After a long battle with cancer, another SFSNNJ member, Carol Smith, who was also a member of the gaming community embraced by the SFSNNJ, succumbed to her illness in July 2006. In an effort to remember our friends, and memorialize them in a way appropriate to their interests and passions, the SFSNNJ developed the Bill Molendyk and Carol Smith gaming event.

On June 20, 2008, the Charity game weekend will begin at Reality’s Edge Game Shop at 291 Ridge Road in North Arlington, NJ around 2pm with simultaneous games of Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer 40,000 Kill Teams, and Dungeons & Dragons 4.0. The weekend will proceed with additional games on Saturday June 21 and Sunday June 22 with multiple events including Dungeons & Dragons games, Heroclix events, and much more. A full schedule of events and times, as well as descriptions of the games will be available on the internet at the Science Fiction Society of Northern NJ’s official website: http://www.sfsnnj.com.

This event is open to all who wish to have fun, to celebrate the life of our friends, and who wish to give to a worthy cause. This event, the first of what we hope to be many, is supported by loyal friends, courageous business owners like Reality’s Edge Games of North Arlington and New Moon Comics of Little Falls, and the strength and generosity of members of the community everywhere. Please help us make this a weekend to remember as we remember our two wonderful friends.
